Background

Albert Einstein once said “Play is the highest form a research”. Playgrounds are safe spaces where kids develop crucial skills necessary to gain self-confidence, improve coordination and advance critical thinking capabilities. Plus, they are FUN!!!

Equipment upgrade needed

The Wallace Takitimu Community Board alongside the Southland District Council are planning to replace two existing pieces of the playground equipment at the Ohai Playground. The equipment has reached the end of its serviceable life and needs to be removed.

Safety audits

Audits are undertaken every two years on SDC playgrounds by playground safety specialists. These audits check that the playgrounds are complying with the NZ Playground Safety and Surfacing Standards.

The equipment due for replacement is the large brown, wooden structure and the small structure with the yellow slides, pictured below.

We want your input!

We would love your feedback on which structures you would like included in the playground.

You're voting to select two new modules for the playground, one large and one small, from the choices shown.

You can vote here, using the star rating system, or you can head to the local SDC Otautau office, Monday - Friday 9am - 12.30pm & 1.30 - 5pm. Also the Nightcaps 4 Square and the Ohai Medical Centre.
