Used to live there, oh to be able to say hello to all I meet in the street once again. Friendliest place on earth.

I love Southland but the Medical Sector is beyond Diabolical &, within this, for me in my situation, wrecks my entire experience here; socially completely Isolates me; & is beyond Distressing. I would not recommend anyone shifting South due to the current extremely Dangerous & hit-and-miss Southern medical culture, which I can see no light at the tunnel as regards. I know of a number of people, first-hand, who have either shifted out of the South due to the Medical culture down here, or who are seriously considering relocating out of Southland for afore-mentioned reasons. https://www.blogger.com/blogger.g?blogID=1475908943999690664#editor/target=post;postID=1041510264906233916;onPublishedMenu=allposts;onClosedMenu=allposts;postNum=4;src=postname

Whose idiot idea was it have the sirens going off at 7 am and on a Saturday. I'm in Riverton on holiday and I truly did not appreciate being woke up by sirens for what I assume is a fire somewhere as there is no tsunami. Is it necessary to let everyone know when the fire brigade is sent out? Why do I care? Come on Riverton, you could do things better.

Improvement and addition of footpaths in the Woodlands township.
Improvement and addition of footpaths in the Woodlands township. With many children walking to and from school or catching the bus to high school, there are some parts of the community where there is no footpaths at all. Woodlands has a high traffic flow and we want our kids and community safe! It would be great to see the path extended along Woodlands South Road & to the Woodlands Outdoor Learning Area. It was great to see so many people out walking over the Covid19 lockdown & I think improved foothpaths would encourage this to continue for all ages.

Hello Mayor Tim
Bummer about the smelter, really sad and my thoughts are with you guys. I have an idea to keep the plant going and retain jobs. My plan is a concept only but always happy to chat. My plan is for Southland to take on all the glass bottles for recycling in NZ and take them to the smelter. There, they can be smelted down to form one cubic meter blocks with holes (similar to gouder cheese). These can be used to make artificial reefs for our marine reserves. The glass remains inert in the ocean, all recycling stays in NZ and Southland can charge a levy to take the bottles as well as sell the blocks to DOC. The existing plant should be well capable of doing this, as it is set up to develop significant heat. These blocks could also be sold overseas perhaps? So there you have it. A simple idea where I am sure there are fishhooks but I believe worthy of throwing in the pot for consideration. Let me know what you think. Cheers and best wishes, John Sargeant :-)

The LAWS and PENALTIES for CATS and their owners should be EXACTLY the same as the rules for DOGS. My dogs are not permitted outside my boundary without being on a leash. My dogs must be securely fenced in.My dogs are not allowed to roam around the neighbourhood at night. My dogs are not allowed to bark excessively. My dogs aren't allowed to urinate/poo on other peoples property and land. My dog isn't allowed to bite/ appear aggressive to people. No other pet that I know of is allowed to roam free to do and go wherever and whatever they feel fit to so why should the cats be allowed. I have cats from around the town deficate on my property,howl/growl/fight at night.
