Taramea Bay playground
Adventure awaits! Concept plans have been revealed for the adventure playground space on the mound at Taramea Bay and we want your feedback.
After collating all the ideas which flooded in during the public engagement phase earlier this year, we’ve worked with leading playground gurus Creo to create a concept design to spark your thinking. Now we want your ideas to evolve it even further.
Do you like the concept?
What could the feature play item be?
What, if anything, would you like to see added or removed?
This is your chance to contribute and work alongside Council to determine the best outcome for this unique play space.

Excited for this.
Excited for this. The community board is carrying on work started in the early 1990s. Looking forward to some more development.

I'm sure it will look nice when done......but it's taken over 18 months to do Bath Road and it's not finished yet. Why can't you complete one area then move on. Maybe get some rubbish drums on Bath road in the mean time.

Someone keeps trimming all the trees and shrubs along the Taramea bay foreshore! Leave them alone already! We don't want heavily manicured clipped vegetation in this natural area - you can do that nonsense at home!Whale area seldom used and hasnt got a toilet.
Whale area seldom used and hasnt got a toilet. Beach area needs more development towards main playground and toilets. Playground at Taramea bay opposite shop is very popular and money spent at whale area would have been better spent there.Unless the Council takes immediate steps to stop the erosion…
Unless the Council takes immediate steps to stop the erosion of the foreshore of Taramea Bay Road there will soon be no playground left!!! The road itself will start disappearing soon as well. By “soon “ I mean a matter of months. Just go and have a look.

We choose to come specifically because of the family friendly nature of the bay. The main playground is getting a little dated and it would be nice to see it upgraded as well. The proposed playground looks great and it would also be nice to see things added to appeal to older children/preteen/teens. Challenging adventure playgrounds. This is a beautiful spot.
This is a beautiful spot. I think the play equipment looks pretty good, but would love to see some more 'unstructured' play opportunities, such as big logs, large rocks etc. so children can come up with their own play ideas rather than just being 'told' what to do by the playground design. I also think it needs to be developed to need no spraying or mowing - choosing the right species of plants to be hard-wearing and beautiful and eliminating expensive, unnecessary ongoing maintenance. I see plenty of playground design in the plans but no landscape planting plans - why not? Who will decide what gets planted? We need to design public places from the outset so they do not commit ratepayers to ever-increasing maintenance costs.great to see the beginnings of what could become Southland's…
great to see the beginnings of what could become Southland's destination playground for people of all ages and abilities. Hopefully be lots of seating areas and shade and drinking fountains available.Pleased to see something progressive being done about this area.
Pleased to see something progressive being done about this area. Like option 2 for the play attraction piece as it can used by lots of children at once. The concept plan looks great. Dogs in playgrounds are an ongoing concern, some more signage would be useful (even though ignored by some).Gas Barbeques as seen in most recreational spaces / parks…

Riverton needs somewhere for kids to ride bikes skateboards and scooters. The skate park is pretty good but not quite big enough on a busy day and not all kids are confident enough to use it. A pump track would be perfect to keep the kids (and big kids) entertained. Only have to go to the park in Te Anau or henleys farm on the way into Queenstown to see how popular they are. A town like riverton needs a place to ride. The photo uploaded is of the Raglan pump track. You should see how many people enjoy that on a good day. Busy as
