Draft Keeping of Animals, Poultry and Bees Bylaw
As the consultation process on the draft bylaw ended up being conducted when New Zealand was in Alert Level 4 in response to COVID-19, Council may consult again on the draft bylaw. This may help ensure that everyone who wishes to, has the opportunity to have their say on the draft bylaw.
If Council does decide to consult again, it will notify the public about when submissions can be made. This will include putting information on Council’s website and on Council’s facebook page.
The draft bylaw contains rules about keeping animals such as pigs, horses, poultry, cats and cattle, and about animal noise. The draft bylaw does not have any rules about dogs. Rules about dogs are in Council’s Dog Control Bylaw.
The draft bylaw is reasonably similar to the current Keeping of Animals, Poultry and Bees Bylaw 2010. The current bylaw is due to be reviewed.
You can review the proposed changes to the existing bylaw and a draft of the proposed bylaw in the statement of proposal.
